‘Elevated Analysis’

Wall based, two sectional, sculptural drawing. Drawn and inscribed, reinforced plaster panel with a wax filled, carved grid. Panel fixed within in a black rust proofed angle Iron frame.

A mix of conceptual and figurative, inspired by research into the archaeological recording of human identity and how this is found and represented in the physical record. Plaster is a metaphor for the crystallisation and seemingly undisputable facts deduced from physical historical records. The wax grid structure represents how grids and our belief in the historical record can change or be manipulated. The frame holds the plaster panel up for scrutiny, suspended in the void within the frame. The drawn and inscribed panel depicts a high status pot, prehistoric in origin, yet recognisable and resonant through time.

A dual fixed panel, wall based sculptural relief. Left panel – concentric rings carved in plaster with wax inserts. Right panel – ink drawing, encapsulated in wax.

Depicting the movement of historical groups and the marking of their environment. Computer generated, Levy Flight simulations inspired the drawing. Wax as a medium can continue to be subject to change and be re worked, much as historical information can be.
The plaster panel depicts the historical ‘cup and ring’ of ancient peoples, marking their journeys across the landscape. Seemingly unchangeable due to the nature of plaster but still not holding any definitive answers as to meaning.

‘Set in Movement’ uses materials and form to portray human nature and its presence in the landscape.
